The city of Long Beach has some pretty tight ties to the entertainment industry in both film and music. Regularly, Long Beach locals are disrupted from their daily routine by film crews. The folks from CSI: Miami are the usual suspects, but movie crews and other TV shows seem to love our city too.
As for music, Long Beach has spawned several well-known bands and musicians, including Snoop Dog, Sublime, Long Beach Dub All Stars and Long Beach Shortbus. Long Beach Shortbus has been called a Long Beach "supergroup," because the members all came from other known Long Beach bands, including Long Beach Dub Allstars, Sublime, Bargain Music and Capitol Eye. These musical minds, along with Snoop, all contributed to a distinctive style that's referred to as the Long Beach sound. Long Beach Shortbus still retains a huge fan base in the city, even though the band broke up in October of 2007.
The Port of Long Beach is located just south of the Port of Los Angeles on the California coastline. Together, the two ports are referred to as the San Pedro Bay Ports---even though they are operated separately and compete for the same business. The Port of Long Beach is the second-busiest seaport in the U.S. and supports more than 30,000 jobs in Long Beach. Under the direction of the city, the Port of Long Beach has adopted a Green Port Policy which defines the goal of becoming the world's most environmentally friendly port.
The Long Beach Airport (LGB) is the best-kept secret of the Los Angeles area resident and visitor. Relative to LAX, the lines at LGB are amazingly short and quick, but the airport does lack in space and dining options. Those who are used to larger airports may feel as though they've stepped back in time to the 1940s when they first arrive at the terminal. Even so, travelers generally love the ease and efficiency of flying in and out of Long Beach Airport.
